America is the land of opportunity and the place where anything is possible. If this is true then why are so many of our American neighbors suffering? It seems that the hard working middle class Americans that once lead this country are now sitting on the side lines. Everywhere you hear different Americans from different background discussing the aspect of America politics. Why do we do this? When do we work to change things. I have been as guilty as the next American sitting around with friends discussing the economics of our United States.
So I have decided to take a stand. Do something to get Americas standing up for something. We are the PEOPLE and together we can change the things. I remembered back when I was growing up there was a day when everyone boycotted gas. Everyone talked about it and passed the word and we didn't even have email or face book back then. It worked. Americas people reminded the government that they hold the power.
We have to change we must get our jobs back in the USA. How about for one day every month we stop buying anything MADE in China. We need to send a message that made in the USA is the best way. I think it is time to send a message. The Americans working today cannot continue to support the unemployed Americans we need jobs back in the USA and we have to make something. Our debit is out of hand.
I have decided to pick the day FEBRUARY 15, 2011. I hope that you join me and lets see if we can Make a difference.
America Stands United

Over the past 18 months I have worked and is located here in Hickory, North Carolina to support the local MFG's. We as a company have tried to make the necessary changes in order to help the industry I love so much. (furniture mfg) We fight the cheap products and we fight to stay with the better products without losing the market share. It seems impossible to meet the needs of the local MFG without buying from a 3rd world country! We will have to partner with China, Korea and India in order to help the local MFG buying product from us. They force this daily. We have stayed high-end working with countries of fair trade like Germany and Italy. Our industry is just not looking to stay high-end. They want that German sports car but priced out of China. This scenario is not limited to the furniture industry, it is what is happening in all manufacturing left in the USA.
The difference for me is I only hear what goes on in other industries, but I can see first hand what is happening in the furniture industry. I am watching the furniture industry dissolve right before my eye. I want to do something! HOW do we change what is in motion? It seems that WE AMERICANS DO NOT STAND TOGETHER in fact we work for companies that are pressing this path and we sit back and watch them fade our domestic mfg out. You have to know that if you are working for a company like this then the job you treasure today will be less and less, because China and the other countries will not go away and if they have success with an import line then it will cut into the domestic mfg they do. Question: How many basic brown leather sofa does the USA need?
Many people think... What can we do.? I am not sure, but the other day I was home sick and I got a call from Frye Hospital in Hickory, NC regarding 185 dollars we owed for a emergency room visit. They called to get the final payment and I did not remember the event that would have caused us to go to the emergency room. I told them I was surprised to have the call and what was the visit for etc??? Well, this lady knew all of the details about Why we visited Who and What happened. It hit me while the lady was talking that she was not in America. I could tell it was not a local connection, so I ask her where she was from and she told me India. Frye Hospital in Hickory, NC farmed out Customer Service to India? Well, that just made me made so, I told the lady that she could tell Frye Hospital that I will be happy to speak with someone in the USA about my account. I would not pay until I heard from someone in the USA. I did not like the fact that Frye gave all of my personal information to people in India without my knowledge. This is very scary and upsetting. It is funny how they can give out information to a total stranger and yet when my mom calls to ask any questions they tell her they can not discuss my account with anyone but me. As far as I am concerned they have invaded my privacy over 185 dollars. Yet privacy is one issue and their are the jobs that Frye gave away to India. We have to stop presidents of companies or board of directors doing things that are just wrong. I am currently writing a letter to Frye to inform them I will not pay that 185 dollars until I get that phone call and I am checking to see what legal action I can take against them. I guess that is small and petty in some way, but I have to do something. I have to try to make a difference. If everyone did that then maybe Frye would get the picture and make a change. I will let you know how it goes.
Many of the MFG that are left with a plant USA have down sized or turned to buy products from China in order to compete with the other companies that are all imports. These import companies try to hide the fact they have an import line, they try to sell it like it is made here in some way shape or form. They are not to proud of the Chinese product, but greedy enough to keep the money. I can promise you that if you look at the ticket price on a product made here you can bet they have to retail price overstate for what the product is worth. I am doing the research now on the mark ups and the details of what you are paying for when you buy the imports. More to come on this subject.
I just saw a local company advertising a presidents day sale and they claim they sell furniture that will last you a lifetime and you are buying heirloom furniture. What a joke!!! It is all or part coming out of China,...that's what the American is looking for Heirloom furniture made in China. Good job. You can not pass it on it is not made to last.
It is clear to me that theses companies will NEVER stop with the imports if we do not start to educate ourselves and be focused as to what is good for OUR country. If we buy imports then We in the USA should know what is fair competition for the American MFG, and what is not fair and unrealistic competition. (ie China, Korea, India etc) We can compete against the Italians and the Germans but we can not compete against the Chinese at the current state. Our government has to help but we can not wait on them. They are not focused on saving our mfg's.
Our American work forces is dying across the board and we are becoming completely dependent on cheap imports. We have to stop buying the junk. We have to start to press BUY USA again. We have to be vocal and stand together to make this change. I found a great blog that is dedicated to the issues surrounding the import and what it cost the county and I read a post that talked about the Wal-Mart effect.( www.blog.aflcio.org) I see so many families buying everything from Wal-mart with a smile on their face. Well all of you need to know that Wal-Mart cost this country over 200,000 jobs. Look at what you buy and stop to think about the need and then ask them if they have anything made in the USA. Sam Walton would be sick to see what happened to his company. The Greed it out of hand. I want to make money like everyone else I just will not do it at the cost of everyone else in this country. We are letting these companies do this to us and we can change it if we STAND UNITED.
I know how hard it is not to buy imports ,but we have to press the retail stores to buy American made goods so that we can create jobs. We have to force this and we have to stop sitting back complaining and doing nothing. Let do something!! Our President our government our representatives are not going to press the change if we do not force them. I have written to Kay Hagen and as many of the other representative possible. I get nothing but a form letter telling me thanks for the note, but I will not stop. If you are out of a job collection unemployment then start writing and pushing because if we keep loosing jobs who will pay your unemployment weekly. It is US the people working so help save your future job. We need to realize this is a major problem just as bad as the Haiti earth quake and start to save our starving families.
I want to do something to help start this change. I am searching to find out what we can do!!!! I want to stand up and do something NOW!!! I am not sure what or how so that is the purpose of my first post. I want to start working with a group of people with the same feelings to save what is left of the MFG in all areas in the USA. Please write with me to and join my fight, my goal to help us stand up and make a difference. I do not want to look back and wish that I should have said something or done something. American we have to work together for change!
As a country we pull together to help other countries in a crisis, but we are not pulling together to save ourselves. If we are waiting on the other countries of the World to save us then we are crazy. This is a USA CRISIS and we need to do whatever it takes to save the Soul of America. Our MFG, FARMER, our RED, WHITE, AND BLUE AMERICAN WORK FORCE
In ending my first post I Kym Bauguess with HOPE and FAITH pray that someone will read this and pass it on and help me find ways for America to Stand United and save our workers our country our USA.
Thanks for taking your time to read my first post and I will be here writing and looking forward to your ideas.
Find time to care and help America Stand United.
